Siemens: Safety Integrated - PROFIsafe

The aim of the PROFIsafe profile is the co-existence of safety-orientated communication and standard communication on one and the same cable. Necessary safety on a single-channel communication system is still possible but the optional route to improved availability by redundancy of the message channels is not obstructed.

PROFIsafe relies on standard communication components such as cables, ASICs and software packages. The safety measures are encapsulated in the communication end users.

PROFIsafe for high safety requirements

• PROFIsafe permits safety-related communications using the standard PROFIBUS DP field bus.
• Communication errors are immediately detected in the system
• Fail-safe PROFIsafe components from Siemens have established themselves in many safety technology applications.

There are basically are no restrictions regarding baud rate, number of bus subscribers or the transmission method providing the required response times of the automation tasks allow.
